The State of Texas created the Near Northwest Management District in 2001 to address concerns about public safety and economic development in our area. The District’s mission is to promote and coordinate economic growth, creation and beautification of area green spaces and promote and supplement public security within our boundaries.
To increase security in the area, the District contracts with Precinct 1 Harris County Constables office to provide eight constables who patrol our sixteen square mile area to provide proactive security services and work with other area law enforcement agencies to respond to crime in our area. These patrols and special multi-agency crime initiatives have brought about a 20 percent reduction in crime in our area.
The District is managed by a 10-member Board of Directors, comprised of commercial property owners, tenants and residents within our boundaries. The District also has a staff of four who run District activities, events and programs.
Commercial property assessments fund all District services and capital. But unlike other assessments, all money raised by the District stays in the District. The District is a great way to make sure your money funds projects important to you—projects that will benefit your business and the value of your property.
